Books are on the table for anyone to look at.
The extra ordinary meeting to be held on 8th October,
proposals book is on the table. There are two proposals in
the book but one needs a seconder.
Social Secretary’s Report:
Unless there are any objections I am looking at China Fleet
Club for our Gentleman evening with 4 different menus
roughly costing between £25 to £35 a head. I will be looking
at getting Ladies night earlier in the year possibly around
Valentines or Easter.
If you have a proposal ensure you are a paid up member and
your seconder is also.
I saw Fred Perry in his car he wound down his window and
said “I’ll be there tonight”. He’s not here as promised, 1
bottle of port.
Please accept my apologies for not being here tonight, I am
attending my family holiday and as such, have prioritised
this over our Association.
Firstly, I’d like to welcome GI Danny Horswill into the
Committee, it’s a pleasure to have him here.
The 300th Meeting and AGM wasn’t the most
comfortable meeting I’ve been to but did highlight some
issues that certainly need addressing.
It was stated that your elected committee are lacking a
certain amount of cohesion and are not providing the service
you expect from the Association. In response, I have to
agree with a lot of what was said and aim to rectify all
shortcomings but it also needs to be said, the finger needs
to be pointed at all of us rather than the few.
On 27 July 2015, the committee gathered in the St Levan Inn
in order to discuss and identify the points raised and
ultimately rectify these issues, ensuring a long term
solution and certainly not a “quick fix”. I speak on behalf
of everyone in the committee that it is an honour to be
elected by the majority and we all take the part we play in
the continued lifespan of the West Country GIs very
I accept that we, the committee went into the AGM ill
prepared without ensuring all mandatory proposals for the
AGM were inputted into the Proposals Book.
I accept that the AGM did not run as an AGM should.
I accept that your elected committee should have driven this
much more diligently.
The other thing I’d like to discuss is professionalism &
integrity from the members.
Only fully paid up members in this Association have a voice
and a vote.
It is down to you to ensure you keep yourself fully paid up
if you wish to remain a part of the Association.
If you make a proposal then take it seriously, you should be
prepared to discuss your proposal at the agreed date of
voting and also make sure your Seconder is fully up to speed
with the details of the proposal.
I realise the last point refers to an isolated incident but
the fact that it actually happened in the first place

GI Cook S
to my mind we run our association just right, it’s not an
old man’s drinking club. We are sat here with a
beer and having a good chat, enjoying our meeting, the only
time it needs to change is for the AGM when we have to get a
bit more serious and we all make sure everything is done
correctly, and we are all paid up members.
The Meeting closed at 20:30
Meeting 302nd will be held on Thursday 10th September at The
Still only £10 per annum plus a £5 joining fee.
