The 275th Meeting was held at the St Levans Inn on Thursday 11th April 2013.

The President opened the Meeting at 2013 at 20:15 with the Loyal Toast to Gunners, Missilemen and POAWW’s everywhere.

Bar Crossers:

Ex-GI Vic COWLING last month

Baroness Thatcher 8th April Prime Minister 1979-90 Leader of the Conservative Party 1975-90

When Margaret Thatcher speaks, the whole world listens. Her political career spanned five decades and love her or hate her; her influence on world politics is undeniable.

Margaret Thatcher is the most quoted political leader since Winston Churchill.  The book ‘As I said to Dennis’ by lain Dale is a unique collection of some of her most memorable quotes. Some quotes are funny, many are inspirational, most are thoughtful... but they are all unforgettable.

Secretary’s Report:  Nothing to add.

Social Secretary’s Report:  As of Mike’s arrival at the meeting this evening he had a total of 44 names for the Ladies Night. As it stands with this amount we would be looking at running a costing of more than the original £900 agreed. Hopefully by the time these minutes hits the streets Mike has had more proformas to bump up the numbers.  It should also be noted that the President put advertisements on the all of the Ops Department related Facebook Pages with, it would appear, little success.

Vice President:  I will tender my apologies for the Ladies Night as I will be at a family birthday celebration up the line. (Prez: Bottle of Port Mr Vice Absent from place of Duty).

Presidents Report:

Welcome to:  GI’s Tidball, Westall, Morgan G, Tom,

Apologies Rx’d from: GI’s Evans G, McIntosh, Jewell, Rodda, Rodda, Baker T, Nuttycombe, Maddox. Prout

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALL

Presidents Charity:    Next project – The President is still waiting for Rattler to give me some details on the football team he said needs assistance with their kit.

Danny handed some paperwork over regarding Jeremiah’s Journey but he was informed by the President that this Charity does get a lot of funding and so this is not likely to be supported.

GI Cook provided some paperwork for Hospice South West (Little Harbour) and the President has agreed to look into this and report back.

AOB:

GI Boyle: Apologies for the next meeting as I will be on my Mediterranean Cruise.

GI Roberts A: Is on another mission!!  He has all the lyrics to the song “My Brother Sylveste”, but cannot remember the music. If anyone can help Robbie with this please contact me and I will pass it on.

He was advised to do a search on Google & YouTube.

Apologies for the next meeting as I will be on my Mediterranean Cruise. (Before anybody is questioning the previous Apology by GI Boyle, they are not cruising together).

GI Walker: I was in B & Q the other day looking for exterior paint as my house is in need of a facelift. As I am scouring the shelves I noticed that “Sandtex” have increased their range of colours. Among their range is “Plymouth Grey”!! After inspecting said colour I came to the conclusion it has nothing to with Plymouth; it is “Shipside Grey”!!  So, I have fired off an email to their company to explain the error of their ways and when summer arrives I will be changing the exterior of my house from white to “Shipside Grey”.

Currently on the “Type 21” Association page a conversation has been started regarding a mass Run to Gibraltar!! It all came about from questions regarding pubs and run ashore dits in Gib over the years.  So, if anyone is interested, get yourself onto the page and see if we can as many old matelots over there to educate the young generation of sailors about how it was back in the day.

GI Archer: Apologies for the Ladies Night - totally gutted I will be missing it but I am waiting for a phone call to go on my next stint away. I hope that all goes well and I will see you all in about two months.

GI Morgan G: I have been doing my resettlement for going outside shortly and I would like to inform everyone that I am now a qualified photographer (You can only imagine the comments that followed that statement!!). Could ask you all to recommend me to anyone who you may know that needs a photographer for weddings, christenings etc? That would be much appreciated (Mr Potts wished Gareth all the luck in his new endeavour; however he did warn him that there are lots of “Snappers” in that profession!!).

GI Lewis: The Prez reminded all that 2014 is the Centenary of the commencement of World War I.  He advised that he would be interested in making a trip across to Belgium to visit Ypres. He said; “If you’re going to visit Ypres, you may as well do it on the big Anniversary” so if anyone is interested give him a shout.  Also, whilst talking about War’s of great magnitude, he is currently on the look-out for any WWII Veteran’s who were in Bomber Command, Path Finder Force or / and Fighter Command.  If anyone knows of any – please advise Steve soonest as he would like to interview them about their Wartime experiences.

The Meeting closed at 2058
