Secretary’s Report:  Tonight the following Committee positions are up for election:

Vice President

Treasurer

Secretary

Before we started our elections GI Mike Walker pointed out that it is at the point where it is the same people that are being elected as committee members. Nobody else seems to be stepping forward to do their year in office as a committee member. This is something that needs to be closely looked at over the coming year.

1)    GI Morgan to be re-elected as Vice President of the South-West Gunnery Instructors Association.

Proposed by GI Steve Lewis & Seconded by GI Sam Potts.

Steve & Sam both pointed out that Rattler does a fantastic job with our functions, also, is and has done a sterling job of Vice President during his term.

This proposal was put to the vote and passed unanimously.

2)    GI Sam Cook to be re-elected as the Treasurer of the South-West Gunnery Instructors Association.

Proposed by GI Steve Lewis & Seconded by GI Mike Walker.

Steve made it known that Sam was doing a tremendous job with the Associations accounts. Mike concurred Steve’s words and at the same time pointed out that he’d had large pants to fill when taking over from GI Bill Luker (apparently Bill Mike meant wide not tall when he was talking about the pants!!)

This proposal was put to the vote and passed unanimously.

3)    Position of Secretary for the South-West Gunnery Instructors Association to be resolved.

At this present moment in time we the Association still do not have an elected Secretary. As it stands, and has done for a while now the President and myself have been sharing the responsibility until someone comes forward to fill this position.

In the proposals book there are still no nominees for this position. However, the situation is this, next year I am going to be elected Vice Captain of Whitsand Bay Golf Club; a position which golfers among us will know is a very important and demanding position. To that end I will not be able to continue in the temporary position of Secretary, so within the coming months a volunteer has to come forward or we will lose the promulgation of our monthly minutes.

Social Secretary’s Report:  It is now confirmed, HMS Drake Senior Rates Mess has been booked for the Ladies Night, Saturday 4th May 2013. This year’s intention is to make it a Dinner/Dance with buffet, my full reasoning behind that is less money on staff and more money on food. The kind of format I aim for is having a band playing gently in the background throughout the eating phase with tables of 8 or 10 being positioned around the hall. My idea is for each table to be called forward in order and in between courses if people want to get up and have a dance they can do so. I want to base the music on 40’s/50’s swing bands and entertainers just to try and give it that mellow entertainment feel. On completion of eating phase we will replace the band with a DJ for the rest of the evening. Now costing, I am looking at charging £75 for a dual ticket, this may change later on depending on final costs and also funds available to me from the Association.

Vice President:

Emails Rx’d from around the Globe:

Chairman West Country Gunnery & Missile Instructor’s Association,

Dear Sir,

Please accept this letter as both a receipt and my personal thanks for the generous donation of £201 towards this years’ Poppy Appeal from your Association.

It is via kind and generous gestures such as this that assist in fulfilling the Royal British Legion’s aims of assisting those in their hour of need. Each year more people come to the Legion for help and the cost of that help is continually growing. Daily we see and read of young Service men and women employed in peace keeping roles throughout the world, often in considerable danger and this means that there will always be a need to provide for them and their dependants when they themselves no longer can. That is why it is so important that the Legion can continue with its vital work.

Thank you on behalf of those who will now benefit from your support.

John Tivnan
