Secretary’s Report:  At the time of the meeting I was very unsure as to whether we would have to postpone this years BBQ.  As the days have progressed since then the weather has had a dramatic turn around and I am looking forward to a large turn out on Friday 27th July.

Social Secretary’s Report:  Gentlemen.....At last night’s meeting I finally got rid of the Social Secretary position, it was close at one time with Mike Walker giving it some thought before accepting the position. I can assure you if he had said no and no one else there had volunteered I would have stayed on temporarily until some other cabbage came forward. I wouldn't just up sticks and go with no one else in position.

So my thanks to the committee, to Steve for giving me a free reign to do things the way I wanted to, in his words (ITS YOUR TRAIN SET DO WHAT YOU WANT) To Sam for never telling me I was  spending too much and to go for it..And of course to Rattler who gave me a big hand in the Ladies nights and always ran them very well....Gentlemen we have a good committee working on your behalf we MUST support them, now with Mike Walker aboard he is one of the old Navy and things will only get better social wise(pressure  Walker).

My thanks to all those who supported me throughout my time in the chair by attending the functions and my thanks to the guests you brought.

This is my last Social E.Mail....I will have to start talking Mac on the WEB Sight now

If you have something that you would like included on the site email it to our webmaster – Ray Lester. Ray has done a brilliant job of amending the website as soon as I request anything, thanks Ray.

Guest Book – Please visit and add your comments as there is still not enough action occurring. Even the new President of Portsmouth has responded through it and Big Mac still thinks he is going mad as he assumes he is still talking to himself. If for nothing else just visit the website and Guestbook to speak to Mac.

Forums – Don’t forget that these are there for you to express yourself with dits or humerous stories etc.

Portsmouth Website: www.rngia.com  - don’t forget to keep tabs on the Portsmouth Website.

Falklands 30th Anniversary Parade:  Held at HMS Raleigh on 15th June, proceedings went extremely well and the Veterans were duly recognised.

National Armed Forces Day:  Took place Saturday 30th June on Plymouth Hoe, Ronnie Barker was present as the State Ceremonial Officer for the Royal Navy.

 Agenda of AGM:

1.    GI Steve Lewis to be re-elected as the President of the West Country Gunnery Instructors Association.

Proposed by GI Morgan:

Seconded by GI McIntosh:

After much deliberation it came to bear that our current President has not stated that he does want to resign. Yes, we do know that Steve does a marvellous job and the next in coming President would have massive boots to fill. What we do have to take into account is that as of lately Steve’s diary has been more filled with his British Legion duties and we do seriously as an Association need to look at the near future for a relief.

For the record Steve was unanimously voted in with one abstention.

Quick note from the President:  A sincere thanks to the Members for supporting me over another 12 months of service. Every year is appreciated as much as the previous and I believe that this  last one takes me to 10.5 years now and I have to say that it has been an immense privilege – Thank You.

The President’s charity has been superbly supported over the years by you and again we achieved our target as well as raising over £530 at the Annual Ladies Night. Many local people will benefit from the Associations generosity. Hopefully we will be able to present our achievements with the Herald reporter and photographer present.

2.    GI Terry Boyle to be re-elected as the Social Secretary of the West Country Gunnery Instructors Association.

Proposed by GI Morgan: As Vice President Terry has produced outstanding Ladies Nights over the past couple of years and it would be a great loss if he stepped down.

Seconded by GI Manning:

A vote of 5 people for the Proposal.

Terry did re-iterate that he had stated two years ago that he would only do 12 months in the position, this turned out be 24 months as last year we had nobody step forward.

A note from the President:  Thank you Terry so very much on behalf of the Committee and Members for organising such outstanding Social Serials over the past couple of years. You talk a good wanting to leave but I reckon you really yearn for more punishment and stress. Thanks Terry if the lads permit you to stand down.

3.    GI Mike Walker to be elected as the new Social Secretary of the West Country Gunnery Instructors Association.

Proposed by GI Boyle: Proposed Mike due to the fact that he is a good organiser, a good person and at present has nothing else to do.

Seconded by GI Cook: I personally believe Mike will do a fantastic job if voted in and given the full support of the Association members.

Mike stated that he has been within the Association from its birth and throughout those years has held literally every position within the Association. If I am elected as Social Secretary I will make the point of giving 110% into organising events, however, I will not be chasing people for events.

A vote of 14 was cast for Mike to be elected as Social Secretary of the West Country Gunnery Association.

A note from the President: Welcome aboard this fine Committee Mike, you can be sure that we the Committee will all give our full support and I hope that our members will follow suit.

4.    Vice President to finally produce and issue the Constitution for the West Country Gunnery Instructors Association.

Proposed by GI Potts: As an Association we need general guidelines, it doesn’t need to be war and peace and it doesn’t need to be something rigid. We are an Association that generally runs itself through matters but still requires stringency in small areas.

Seconded by GI Luker: Bill pointed out that 2 years ago our previous Vice President did a re-write on the then Constitution which we felt was lacking in updated information. This re-write was then disseminated to the members for them to read and forward comment if necessary and it was at this point that the update to our Constitution was lost.

A vote was cast with 2 votes for, 6 votes against and 6 abstentions.

Emails Rx’d from around the Globe:

Raffle Prize donators: GI’s Dobson K, Luker, Potts, Cook, Boyle, Nutt BEM, Rodda, Manning and MacCallum.

Next Raffle: GI’s Roberts A (D), Walker, Bennett and Nutt BEM.
