Good Morning All,
Just thought I'd nip on here to promote the Branch Dinner to be held on 18 November. This is set to be another great Branch get together in Gods County. Get in touch with the Secretary Nick Thurston or any other Members of the Committee for further details.

You know it makes sense.

Nice to see the WCGI still going strong, was a member back with Sam Potts, Wiggy Bennett (co op funeral director) and Chris Tremaine and many others. A long time ago when we all had hair and met up in the Senior Rates Mess HMS Drake.
Miss the banter, comeraderie and damm fine lads of the RN.

Hi Shady, we're still around and still enjoy this great association. Sam Potts is still a regular and Wiggy obviously loves the easy life so much, he's our Social Sec now he's retired!
Shame you're at Wales but keep an eye out on the page as we'll soon post a date for our 30 year anniversary Ladies Night which will be in June 2018. We're planning something special as it's a landmark which we're proud to approach so it'll definitely be worth a visit. Do you have a Facebook account and are you included in the Facebook page?

Good

I'm writting on behave of my late Father (CPO Eric Harding retired) who passed away last week. He was a GI at HMS Excellent during the 60s & 70s, and I believe he was a association member of the Portsmouth Branch until it closed. We intend to hold his funeral at The Oaks Havant Crematorium 3rd March 1300hrs, and we will celebrate his time in the Royal Navy with some of his old comrades. His ashes will scattered out in the Solent.
Regards
Chris Harding, his oldest son

Good Morning All. Tis true. I have been coerced back onto the Committee for a while which is nice. Kinda missed it if I am honest. It will be great getting amongst it again and hopefully maintaining the current momentum. I am looking forward to the forthcoming Dinner and hope to see those of you that read this there too. I am having to cut short a planned Scottish 500 epic bike ride to attend so no excuses please.

Not sure if anyone is reading the posts on here anymore. Thought I would notify any readers that; Steve Lewis was voted in as VP of the association, Nick Thurston remains sec and the constitution was passed. Other news of interest, the construction of my new greenhouse is complete, the nest box with camera is up and working. Dry Jan is going really well lost 6lbs in 12days.

I still check in mate. Well done on the Dry January thing, it's amazing how the devils brew really interferes with the old constitution! Not the Association constitution though, that's still a new kid on the block, even if it did take 29 years to produce!

Got plenty to be getting on with in 2017, Greenhouse to finish building, garage to complete in studio and work shop. Work bench to go in to shed when its been emptied of all the greenhouse stuff. Miles to travel in Motorhome and a cruise starting out in Singers. With hopeful a trip to Bali and Perth. First week end away is next week end in the motorhome, I know its winter but we have heaters. Happy Days.

Basher not been too well this last week or so. He was admitted to hospital for 24 hours last week. But he was not looking his normal self. Breakfast was the first proper meal he has eaten since.
Have not heard how men's night went but sure Wiggy made sure it was ok.
Just in the process of booking my next years cruise, we are going on the Discovery next September, cousin been on it and said its very nice.

Its pointless Scouse.....there is no use of this site so I am going to bow out...cant be bothered to see what is going on and only you and me on here so we might as well keep in touch via the normal e-mail. There is no mention of the Gents Night whether it was a success or not or really any mention of much to do with our world so it is pointless for someone away from home for keeping in touch. Hops all is well with you and give Basher my best. The Discovery, is that the old Splendour...told you it would be nice....anyway closing down this station......play nice love and peace......no need for the usual comments about the door banging me on the arse on the way out.........

No Scouse it is not Roger Smith from the Lodge. Well we are on way round Aus still and in Melbourne tomorrow before heading across to New Zealand. Quite an interesting trip although the age demographic would make you look young. I have never seen so many scooters or Zimmer frames since parking outside your house!! On the Johno front I have spoken to his relief and he joins his ship today but lets see if he gets in contact. Danbouy is still building that Greenhouse despite me saying that yellow is a nicer colour. The Gents night seems to have been a success although communication from Wiggy is as scant as from Johno! Lets hope that all the reports are good and that they were well looked after at the Lodge being as it is my Lodge. Anyway nothing else to report, all well on the high seas......play nice, love and peace!

Hello all readers were ever you be, well needless to say went on the Hoe this morning for the Rememberance service. Only saw two people who I knew, the rest must of have died.
Well last years little drip must have made a difference, Chris who trained them was the Parade Chief, all Holy Grales were carried by Senior Rates, because of my position could not see much, but it all looked much better. Bravo. See I eat humble pie and give credit were its due.
Looked for FMTH on the tv but could not see him, he must have been stood behind someone who was two foot tall.
Breakfast thisTuesday as normal with Basher.
Come in Mac.....Come in Danbouy....make the effort Johno!!!!.
In town on Friday and saw every one, first Ruby Murray then Ken and over Torpoint in afternoon there was FMTH.

Good to hear that all was in order for Remembrance Ceremony on the Hoe.....so many people now that if you dont go with a gang then you have no chance of meeting up with people but I am sure that some of the watering holes had a few old salts spinning dits and sinking a few. Where are you having Breakfast these days are you still in Plympton. he good news for you is that I will not be back in the UK until 7th of June next year so you are releived to hear tht I am sure. Couldnt handle the jet lag so I am going straight to Chile instead of coming home at the end of my contract. V/Quiet on the Danbouy front but he is building a greenhouse after all, yellow is a much nicer colour! As for Johno I dont know what has occured there at all. We are in NZ next week but I am not sure if we are near to where he lives but nothing from him so I guess we will never know. Great to see Argyll at the top of the League and I am sure that you are dleighted with the Liverpool results and it looks like Klip idy Klop is getting it together. Saw the Scotland, England match and thought that both sides were very ordinary especially as before them we had Argentina v Brazil...different class. Just in case by any chance if Wiggy is reading this Roger from the Lodge needs you to contact him ASAP..... Anyway enough waffle for now, play nice, love and peace

I was all set to go to the Hoe but had to support my daughter as she was in a Parade "marching" (she's 7) with her rainbows Troop to St marys Church in Plympton. It was all a bit last minute as we only found out about it on the Wednesday prior. I was the only one in Rig, plenty of veterans though so that was good.
Another thing that was good about the day was the weather! Sunny, clear & crisp.

Hello Mac/Danbouy and if you are out there Johno somewhere on this Planet.
Still having breakfast at the Harvester on Tuesdays, I am in touch with one of the PO Chefs who was on the Berwick with Basher and I and hoping he will join us one day, he is still working and he's seventy, he won't be when I have had a chat with him.
With Drivers now that our cafe has closed on the Embankment we are going to the the Port O Call which is right next door the the West Hoe Pub, I have tried it out and it's good, looks like a cafe with plastic chairs from outside but inside its very nice. Intact we are all going there next Friday.
Thanks for telling when you are back in the UK Mac, I am still renting your pad out to squatters so this means I have a little longer to get the rent!!.
Yes we were very lucky against Scotland, thought they played very well.
I know a Roger from the Lodge is it Roger Smith?.

A question on Protocol to the Gods that be real GI's ...
1. Wearing of medals on Remembrance day, I was last year part of the Parade in Chesterfield as a Guest I wore my medals and had the honor to wear my late Fathers WWII medals for the first time. This year I will attend, as a spectator at a local Sea Cadet parade where my Granddaughter is a Cadet I/C of her squad, she is 10, although I will wear my medals can I allow her to wear my Father's, her Great grandfather's medals?, on the right of course.
2. I will be politely introduced to the Cadets Commander, a 2 ringer Wren officer reservist, as I will be wearing Veterans Rig - Blazer, Grey Trollies, Beret etc. Should I salute or just shake hands, I should know this but I've been too long a Civvy lol
your guidance will be gratefully appreciated.......

Ty Thursday, 10 November 2016 23:12
Host: cpc88608-newt36-2-0-cust803.19-3.cable.virginm.net
1. To my knowledge, only the person who earned the medals has the right to wear them but the "right breast" tradition rose up from somewhere so I honestly don't know. I wore my Great Grandads medals in the same fashion at my Grandads funeral, in some cases I think it's a case of - what do you think HE would want? Me personally, I wouldn't as it's a public event and not a private/family one but it still comes down what you think you're father would want.

2. Saluting happens when you're in service rig, veterans rig is different, it's optional. Coming smartly to attention with a verbal salutation is all that's required. Your choice.

Lloyd Evers (on Facebook) is a font of knowledge on this, he's in the WCGI group, he could give the gold standard answer.

£210 raised for RBL tonight, numbers pushing 40 for the Men's Night. Happy days.

Belay my last. Descendants can wear medals on the right.

There are no regulations which govern the wearing of medals awarded to persons who are deceased. Although it is not formally authorised, it has become an acceptable practice for Next of Kin or Legal Beneficiary (when in civilian dress) to wear deceased persons insignia as a mark of rememberance on suitable occasions if they so desire. (The most notable is Remeberance Sunday Parades and Services). When so doing, the medals are worn on the right hand breast in civilian dress only.

Thanks Ty very much appreciated, and all said coincides with my thoughts and the way I remember things, its good to have others thoughts, comments, guidance ..... I will allow my Granddaughter the privilege and she will stand proud on the Parade ground as always did.

Thanks for that Ty, like I said I hope all goes well and Wiggy's first is a great success.
Agree with the medal information you gave to Ray, win em and wear them I say. Be a brave man who picks him up, tell them to stow it Ray. You see it all the time people wearing medals on the right. Granddaughter a great idea.
I will be on the Hoe this Sunday( will try not to critisise).
